Case Study: Prometheus - Media Ownership

Prometheus is produced by Scott Free Productions and Brandywine Productions.

Scott Free Productions is owned by Ridley Scott who directed and produced Prometheus and the other Alien Films. Scott Free Productions is a fairly small company, it has a huge repretation from the Alien Franchise, Blade Runner and the oscar-winner Gladiatior.

Brandywire Productions is most known for the very successful Alien Franchise. Brandywire have produced a smaller amount of films that are mostly around the same genre/style. The company was founded by American filmmakers Walter Hill, David Giler and Gordon Carroll. They have only produced two films before the Alien Franchise and then no other films after Prometheus.

As the Alien films were incredibly popular and produced by the same companies, Prometheus was expected to be at the same standard as the others. Ridley’s other films were very successful and as people knew of his involvement Prometheus was known to be potentially very successful.

Prometheus is Distributed by 20th Century Fox.

20th Century Fox is a huge American film studio. It is one of the six major film studios.

20th Century Fox have distributed many huge films including Star Wars, X-Men and many different TV programmes.

Because 20th Century Fox have such a well-known name, most films related to the company are expected to be high-standard, good films.
